Knife laws in the United States vary significantly by state, county, and city, and they change over time. Some knives that are legal to own in one location are restricted or prohibited in another. Before you purchase, it is your responsibility to know and follow all local, state, and federal laws that apply to buying, owning, carrying, and shipping the knife to your address.
Federal Law — Automatic (Switchblade) Knives
Under the Federal Switchblade Act (15 U.S.C. §§ 1241–1245), the shipment and interstate sale of automatic (switchblade) knives is restricted, with limited exceptions (for example, sales to government agencies, active-duty military and law-enforcement personnel acting in the course of their duties, and certain individuals with the use of only one arm). We comply with these federal requirements on all applicable orders.
State Restrictions — Automatic / OTF Knives
Possession and/or shipment of automatic knives is prohibited or heavily restricted in a number of states. We do not ship automatic/OTF knives to states where their possession is unlawful, including but not limited to:
- Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and Washington, D.C.
Other states impose partial restrictions (for example, blade-length limits, carry restrictions, or licensing requirements). Examples include California (automatic blades under 2 inches only), Illinois (FOID card required), and New York and Oregon (possession may be legal but carry is restricted).
Your Acknowledgement
By purchasing a knife from Survival Mode Tactical, you certify that:
- You are at least 18 years of age;
- It is legal for you to purchase, own, and possess the knife at your delivery address; and
- You assume all responsibility for the lawful ownership, carry, transport, and use of the knife.
If we determine that an order cannot be lawfully shipped to your address, we will cancel the affected item(s) and refund you. Survival Mode Tactical is not responsible for a buyer's failure to comply with applicable knife laws.
